Storms on Monday bring flash flooding to parts of North Texas

4 minutes, 54 seconds Read

Monday afternoon's storms triggered flash flood warnings for parts of North Texas, including the city of Dallas.

The biggest concern for Dallas was flooding and flooded streets.

Flooding on the roads worried drivers like Dawilliam Davis.

“I was actually praying that I wouldn’t get stuck,” he said.

Davis was able to get through, but Dallas Fire-Rescue says other drivers were unable to.

Emergency services responded to several reports of flooding with stalled vehicles attempting to drive through the floodwaters.

Emily Smith was driving from Burleson to Dallas and was hit by flooding on I-35.

“I had to run the windshield wipers on full speed, and even then they kept going down. It’s crazy,” she said.

Smith is grateful to be safe in Dallas.

“When you drive, be careful, keep your eyes on the road, keep your hands on the steering wheel and obey the speed limit. Because if you don’t, the puddles will take you.”

Several inches of rain fell in parts of North Texas, a welcome sight for some and a reminder that Texas weather is unpredictable even in November.

“It was just nice to have some rain,” said Ladia Cruz of Dallas. “Just typical Texas, I guess. You never know what you’re going to get.”

Scattered showers along the I-35 corridor with a line of storms moving through East Texas. Severe weather is not expected, but heavy rainfall may cause localized flooding overnight.

Some parts of East Texas remain under a tornado watch until midnight.
