More than 2.3 million Washingtonians have already voted on Friday, and millions more are ready to head to the voting booths in Tuesday's election.

The numbers, last updated Friday evening at 5 p.m., represent more than 47% of all voters in Washington.

After the explosions at the polls in Vancouver and Portland, many voters want to check whether their ballot was accepted.

In Washington the process is very simple.

Voters can check their ballot status by going to the VoteWA website and entering their name and date of birth.

“Ballot status will be updated as your ballot is received and processed,” the Washington Secretary of State’s office wrote on its website. “Please allow 3-5 business days for your ballot to be mailed as received.”

There are four electoral status categories:

Sent

The ballot was marked as sent by the county, but has not yet been received by the election board.

Receive

A ballot paper received is in the possession of the election board, but the signature has not yet been verified by officials.

Accepted

Signature verification is complete and the voter's vote has been credited.

Rejection/challenge

This means the signature or ballot has been challenged. In this case, a county elections official will contact the voter.

As of Monday, only 0.94% of ballots had been challenged. Challenged ballots can still be accepted once the voter and an election official resolve the matter.

There are two reasons for rejection or challenge that do not require action by the voter.
