After SMU's 96-62 win over Tarleton State on Monday night, Kario Oquendo and Keon Ambrose-Hylton spoke to the media. This is what they said:

Continue to Moody Coliseum: (Keon Ambrose-Hylton): “It felt great, felt like home. I love the energy that comes out in our first game. I can't wait for the next one.” (Kario Oquendo): “It was good, I played there for the first time. We had a pretty good turnout, although there were some complications before the game. But I liked the atmosphere and the student section was nice.”

To which sparked the 32-3 run in the first half (KAH): “Yes, our energy. Definitely our energy because we made sure to dictate our defense when we play hard in practice.” (Oquendo): “(Chris) Capko came up to us before the game and told us we had to be in stand up in defense. We just took what we had, I think we smelled a little blood, but we just kept going.”

About the team's first game: (KAH): “Yes, it feels good. Each team has its first game. I feel like we stayed balanced from start to finish. Yes, we had mistakes here and there, but we recovered, which shows that we are resilient and able to overcome adversity.” (Kario Oquendo): “Our first performances didn't go the way we wanted “So I think we learned from those (games) tonight and made sure we went out and played as hard as we could and I think everyone left it on the floor.”
