An hour after polls opened in Illinois on Election Day, at least two polling places in the state briefly reported problems with the voting system, with one of the problems relating to a precinct in Chicago.

The update comes after some voters in the Illinois and Chicago area posted on social media that they were having problems at their polling places.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, Max Bever, public information officer for the Chicago Board of Elections, confirmed to NBC Chicago that technical issues were impacting voters in the 12th District, whose polling place was Ogden Elementary at 24 E. Walton.

Bever said the site had “an issue with its poll books” and that the problem was “limited to 12th District voters only.” Voters would be directed to the nearest voting center if they could not stay or return by 7 p.m., Bever added.

At around 9:50 a.m., Bever confirmed to NBC Chicago that the poll book issued at Ogden Elementary had been resolved.

Downstate, in Champaign County, Chief Deputy Clerk Angela Patton confirmed to NBC 5 shortly after 7 a.m. that the county was experiencing technical difficulties at polling locations.

Patton added that the county is waiting to hear from the provider about a possible fix or status update.

Patton also said Champaign County is not the only county in Illinois experiencing the problem, but it was not immediately known which other counties were experiencing problems.

“Other counties are reporting the same issues with inability to process voters/system down,” Patton said.

Patton said Champaign County Circuit Clerk Aaron Ammons worked with the Illinois Attorney General's Office to extend voting hours.

“Please be patient, we are doing everything we can,” Patton said.

At 7:23 a.m., the Champaign County Clerk's Office said the county's voting system problems had been resolved and that Clerk Ammons wanted to extend voting hours until 9 p.m
