Watch Live: Trump speaks as Harris' path to victory narrows

Former President Donald Trump spoke to supporters early Wednesday morning at his election headquarters in West Palm Beach, Florida, declaring victory in the presidential race as votes were still being counted in several key battleground states. CBS News has not yet made a forecast Presidential racesince Trump doesn't currently have the votes to win.

Trump was accompanied by his family and his vice president, Senator JD Vance.

“I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th President and your 45th President,” Trump said. “And every citizen, I will fight for you, for your family and for your future. Every single day I will fight for you with every breath in my body.”

Trump said America had “given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate” and noted that Republicans had taken back control of the Senate.

“This will truly be the golden age of America,” he said.

Trump said he would work to seal the borders, but hardly addressed politics in his remarks. He praised his campaign and his surrogates and particularly thanked billionaire Elon Musk for his help in recent months.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, we will never stop fighting for you — for your dreams, for your children’s future,” Vance said. “And after the greatest political comeback in American history, under the leadership of Donald Trump, we will lead the greatest economic comeback in American history.”

So far, the battleground states that CBS News is predicting Trump will win are North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania. CBS News rates Wisconsin as a Trump supporter. He needs 270 electoral votes to win, and CBS News projects he currently has 266.

Harris was expected to celebrate election night at her alma mater, Howard University, but after midnight, Harris campaign coordinator Cedric Richmond told the crowd that she would not be speaking to supporters tonight. Harris remained at the vice president's residence in Washington, DC

Trump supporters at his election party in West Palm Beach were optimistic Tuesday night as the results came in, with Fox News playing in the background. Those supporters included Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Senator Marco Rubio and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

CBS News Projects Republicans Will Take Over Control of the Senate when the new Congress begins in January.
