Melania Trump made an increasingly rare public appearance with husband Donald Trump as the couple cast their votes in the US presidential election on Tuesday. However, netizens couldn't help but notice that the former first lady of the United States refused to remove her sunglasses indoors – leading to a revival of “fake Melania” conspiracy theories.

Donald and Melania Trump cast their votes on November 5 at the Mandel Recreation Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. Footage of Melania, 54, standing quietly next to her husband, dressed in a dress and sunglasses, quickly spread online.

“Melania wore sunglasses indoors all day today,” reads a post on X that went viral with a whopping 34 million views. The post includes a video showing the Trumps greeting their supporters at the polling station.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wore a red MAGA hat, but Melania even ditched the signature MAGA color and opted for a black dress and sunglasses.

Melania or fake Melania?

The video once again sparked conspiracy theories about “Scammer Melania”. The “imposter” conspiracy theories about Melania Trump began circulating during Donald Trump's presidency and suggested that Melania Trump sometimes used a body double during public appearances.

This time too, many X users expressed the possibility that Donald Trump used a body double for his wife Melania.

“That's the double, not Melania, that's easy to see when she smiles and that's what the glasses are for,” one X user wrote.

“This is fake Melania,” wrote another. Dozens of X users said: “That’s not Melania” under the viral video.

Some even tried to provide photographic evidence to explain why they felt Melania Trump would have sent a body double in her place.

“The Melania double looks terribly nervous,” reads a post on the social media platform. “I swear I'm not into the full body double conspiracy thing but… that's obviously not Melania,” another person said.

However, other videos show that Melania eventually took off her sunglasses as she addressed her supporters.

Melania is a Slovenia-born former model who married Donald Trump in 2005. They have a son named Barron Trump.
