ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – The 2024 election is just around the corner and voters are reminded that not only political candidates but also General Obligation (GO) bonds are on the ballot. These GO bonds provide additional funds for local projects.

Bond question two would provide $8.8 million in funding for projects in and around Albuquerque. Bernalillo County Fire Rescue has items that could be funded by the bond. “Bond issue two will help us secure a roof replacement for Fire Stations 32 and 38. These stations are well over 20 years old,” said William Harris, public information officer for BernCo Fire and Rescue. Some of that money would also go toward more modern rescue equipment to replace some of the old fleet.

$2 million of that bond will go toward a project to construct a new family services building in the South Valley. Another portion of this bond would provide funding for police vehicle fleets and repairs/renovations at other county buildings. “It also applies to all the buildings we live in. This includes just over 150 buildings in the district for which we are responsible. “It houses everything from our downtown headquarters to various community centers,” said Assistant District Manager Elias Archuleta.

GO bonds are funded through federal and state grants.
