JD Vance ‘caught’ lying about egg prices on camera and takes aim at Kamala Harris

3 minutes, 38 seconds Read

JD Vance recently blamed Kamala Harris for high egg prices due to inflation in a video from his campaign. However, he was caught lying in the video when viewers pointed to a price board directly behind him where the eggs were sold for $2.99, while the Ohio senator claimed they were sold for $4. He appeared at a supermarket in Reading, Pennsylvania, as part of his campaign to sway the state's voters to his and Donald Trump's side for the upcoming November election. In response to the video, some people claimed he was twisting his facts.

JD Vance blames Harris for high egg prices

Vance was browsing through a supermarket with his two children when he came to the egg section and decided to use the high prices to call attention to inflation and blame it on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. In the video, he said, “If you look at the prices here, things are way overpriced because of Kamala Harris' policies.” His son interrupted him and pointed to a carton of eggs. Vance said, “Yeah, buddy. You want eggs? Let's talk about eggs. Because these people actually eat like 14 eggs every morning,” referring to his children.

He then claimed, “When Kamala Harris took office, a dozen eggs cost less than $1.50. Now a dozen eggs cost about $4,” the Daily Mail reported. He continued, “Thanks to Kamala Harris' inflationary policies. Pennsylvania has actually seen some of the worst food price increases in the nation, and that's also because she cast a decisive vote on the Inflation Explosion Act.”

However, he was caught red-handed when a user pointed out that the price board behind him indicated that the eggs at the store were on sale for $2.99. One user wrote on X, “He also can't count as he is holding a carton of more than two dozen eggs. The lies just don't stop.” Another user wrote, “It's OK to make up stories – JD Vance.” One user wrote, “Can this man NOT lie (at this point in spacetime)???”

However, according to SoFi Learn, the Ohio senator was technically correct, as eggs in Pennsylvania cost an average of $4.52 overall, citing the Consumer Price Index.

Vance added in that vein, “The price of ground beef has gone from barely $4 a pound to $6 a pound because Harris cast the deciding vote” on what he called the “inflation explosion bill.” He continued, “She says on day one she's going to address the affordability crisis affecting American families. Day 1 was 1,400 days ago. What the hell have you been doing all this time? Stop talking about what you're going to do and get out there and do it.”

According to Morning Call, the inflation rate in the United States was 2.5 percent at the end of August 2024, the lowest level since February.

Vance's campaign so far in Pennsylvania

Expensive eggs aside, Vance's campaign weekend in the state was a good one, and his meeting with Tucker Carlson was a resounding success. Despite the delay caused by a lack of security equipment to control the 6,000 people, a huge crowd attended the event.

The event was very well attended as the two discussed the upcoming election and the state of modern America. However, the event was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. because there were only 8 security scanners due to the crowds. The broadcast media was given limited permission to record only the first half of the show.

He also mentioned that Americans are “poor in their own country” because the current administration and the high interest rates it has implemented have made it “far too expensive” to own property. He also stressed that not only food, but “everything has become more expensive and people can no longer afford their basic needs because of Harris' policies.”

Vance's visit to Carlson was part of his national tour, during which he hosted conservative figures such as Donald Trump Jr., Glenn Beck and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
