The New York Jets reached a new low on Sunday with a 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots, extending their losing streak to five games in a row.

Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers was asked after the game what didn't go well for the team during that fumble situation.

“Well, we don’t play complementary football,” Rodgers said. “Since the last time we won a game where all three phases played really well, we haven't really gotten it right. The same is true today.”

Rodgers added that he believes the Jets are in a period of “darkness” and explained how the team can get out of this precarious situation.

Ironically, the Jets' last win was their first game against the Patriots in Week 3. Everything seemed to be heading in the right direction after New York's dominant 24-3 win, but it all quickly fell apart.

Rodgers threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns on 17 of 28 passes against the Patriots. The Jets' much-maligned offense showed moments of competence in Sunday's game, but the team failed in other areas.

New York kicker Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point in the first quarter and a field goal in the fourth quarter, causing the team to drop four crucial points and end up losing by three points. Zuerlein has now missed six field goals this season, four of which resulted in losses of three points or less.

The Jets defense, considered one of the league's best at the start of the year, has been anything but good and its problems continued Sunday. New York allowed New England to convert crucial third downs and had to pay penalties for it. The Patriots gained 111 yards on the ground, the fourth time the Jets have allowed their opponents over 100 rushing yards in their last five losses.

Things won't get any easier for New York (2:6) as they host the AFC South-leading Houston Texans (6:2). Football on Thursday evenings.
