Bank of America customers reported having problems accessing their bank accounts on Wednesday, but the bank said the apparent error had largely been resolved.

Reports of a problem at Bank of America peaked around 12:45 p.m. ET on Downdetector, which collects data on outages.

Many customers complained that they could not view their account balance. Some who were able to access their accounts were surprised to see the zero balance.

In a statement to CNN, Bank of America acknowledged that “some customers today are experiencing issues accessing their account and balance information.”

“These issues are being addressed and are largely resolved,” Bank of America said. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Bank of America declined to provide further details about the cause of the problem. It is not clear when all systems will return to full normality.

Several CNN employees with Bank of America accounts were unable to log into their accounts online Wednesday afternoon. A Bank of America customer received a message that the current balance for one or more accounts “may be temporarily unavailable.”

“Five accounts have a zero balance of over 20,000,” a Bank of America customer wrote on Downdetector.

Another said he couldn't log in, but his wife could and their accounts showed no balance.

“Shows my debt pretty well,” said another user.
