When Sydney Sweeney hosted Saturday Night Live You may remember that back in March of this year, there was a lot of backlash to all the jokes about her appearance.

From the pre-show promos – in which Sydney joked about her “strangely” large male fanbase – to the evening's sketches – where the euphoria Star played roles like a Hooters server and a lecherous cheerleader – it certainly didn't go unnoticed by viewers that much of the material hinged on her attractiveness.

Since Sydney had previously spoken about the pain of being constantly sexualized, many fans felt this SNL's writers had done her a disservice by focusing so much material on her looks.

After the episode aired, Vanity Fair published an article titled “Saturday Night Live Did Sydney Sweeney Dirty.” At the same time, the Daily Beast criticized the show's “lazy habit” of objectifying its hosts – and pointed out that Jacob Elordi's hosting debut earlier in the season included just as many jokes about his appearance.

And now, SNL Actor Bowen Yang responded to the backlash, recalling that Sydney was completely fine with the body-related humor and had encouraged the jokes from the start.
