An additional player included in the Timberwolves' Karl Anthony Towns trade

The shocking trade between Karl and Anthony Towns shook the Minnesota Timberwolves fanbase to its foundations, and rightly so. KAT was the longest-tenured member of this team and his presence had been a certainty for the past nine seasons. His sudden disappearance would be a complete culture shock for the Timberwolves.

But in exchange for the Towns deal, Minnesota will receive Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo back from the New York Knicks, along with a first-round pick. The trade has yet to be officially completed per league rules, but is expected to be completed in the coming days.

In the meantime, some new details of the trade have emerged that show us that Randle and DiVincenzo are in fact not the only players the Timberwolves will be receiving as part of the trade. According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Minnesota will also bring Keita Bates-Diop in the deal.

What was originally a two-team trade was expanded to include the Charlotte Hornets. They will now receive DaQuan Jeffries and planned compensation, details of which have yet to be announced. Keita Bates-Diop will also move to the Timberwolves.

Of course, Bates-Diop began his NBA career in Minnesota, where he was selected 48th overall by the organization in 2018. He played 67 games for the Wolves in his first two seasons in the league and was eventually traded to Denver. Since playing with the Nuggets, he has also appeared in games for the Spurs, Suns and Nets.

Even though he wasn't exactly a fan favorite during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, many have grown fond of Keita for his usefulness on the bench. The 1.90 meter tall wing will now return to the Timberwolves locker room, at least for the time being. It's still possible that Bates-Diop could be moved elsewhere in the near future.
