Many Americans tend to view elections – and politics in general – as issues aimed exclusively at adults. But that could be changing: The latest poll from the Harvard Institute of Politics suggests that Americans under 30 now have strong opinions on modern issues such as the Israel-Hamas war, the crisis at the southern border, the economy and reproductive freedom.

Comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld made international headlines after he criticized his children's former New York school for giving students a day off after Election Day.

According to the New York Times, Ethical Culture Fieldston School said in an email that students could choose to miss class on Wednesday, the day after Election Day, if they were “emotionally distressed” and unable to attend are to “fully engage”. The school justified its decision by saying “this may be a high-risk and emotional time for our community.”

In addition to exempting students from classes, preschool through 12th grade students promised teachers that they would not assign homework on Election Day. There are also plans to include psychologists for students seeking advice.

The school “will create space to provide students with the support they may need,” its principal Stacey Bobo reportedly said, “regardless of the election outcome.”

Seinfeld told the New York Times that decisions like these led his youngest son to transfer to another private school for eighth grade.

“That’s why the kids hated it,” Seinfeld said. “What kind of lives have these people led that makes them believe this is the right way to deal with young people? To encourage you to give in. That’s the lesson they teach for ungodly amounts of money.”
