STATE FARM STADIUM – The Arizona Cardinals have fired former head coach Kliff Kingsbury at the end of the 2022 season.

Almost two full years later, he takes his revenge.

Kingsbury's offense gave the Washington Commanders a 42-14 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday, leaving Arizona at 1-3 this season with two tough tests in San Francisco and Green Bay in the next two weeks.

Washington's offense – led by No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels (who is also enjoying a homecoming of sorts after first starting his college career at Arizona State) – scored more than 35 points for the second straight year, leaving the Running the ball with ease and finding open goal receivers far too often.

All in all, it was a masterclass from Kingsbury in a stadium that saw few such games in his previous NFL stint.

As for his rookie quarterback, Daniels finished the game 26-30 passing for 233 yards, one touchdown/interception each. He also added 47 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

The Commanders totaled 449 net yards on 7 of 9 offensive attempts. They only punted and took a 9-12 lead on third down.

It was clearly a personal affair for Kingsbury, who was clearly having fun on the sidelines.

The Cardinals knew it would be tough going up against a player like Daniels, who can hurt you both on the ground and in the air.

“He's obviously a very special player to play against because of his ability. He has unique abilities but can use them anywhere. He can extend plays. He can throw it on the field. “A great player,” Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said earlier this week.

Arizona's offense scored points right from the start and then faltered massively, only getting back on goal 11 seconds before the end of the third quarter. Arizona itself took an 11-4 lead on third down and completely lost its identity for most of the action.

It was a dominant performance from Washington from start to finish, and the Cardinals now find themselves in an early season hole thanks to a familiar face.
