The City of Asheville Water Resources Department says customers in Buncombe County are experiencing periods of low pressure and distribution system outages due to weather conditions caused by Helene.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increase the risk of backdraft and the introduction of bacteria into the water system, according to a warning from the water authority. There is also the possibility of a temporary water supply outage.

When water service is restored, consumers with electricity are advised to boil all water used for human consumption, including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food. Those without electricity are advised to use bottled water for these purposes.

“Boiling vigorously for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water,” said the City of Asheville Water Resources Department.
