Baton Rouge reaches its highest temperature of 90 degrees on record

1 minute, 0 seconds Read

An all-time record fell on Wednesday as Metro Airport recorded the latest 90-degree temperature in history. Previously, the latest day in the calendar year to reach 90 degrees was October 27 – set earlier this year and in 1907.

Since Saturday, four (out of five possible) record temperatures have been equaled or broken. As October ends and November begins, a number of additional warm temperature records will be at risk. From Saturday to Wednesday the temperatures will be only one to two degrees below the previous record temperatures. From Thursday to Tuesday, temperatures will be just one to two degrees below the record-breaking low temperatures.

October 2024 is on track to be among the five warmest on record, with an average monthly temperature of 73.9 degrees through Tuesday. The hottest October was in 1919 with an average temperature of 78.2 degrees. A little rain in the forecast for Halloween could keep October 2024 from also being among the ten driest on record.
