Behren Morton suffers an injury, the Red Raiders collapse at No. 4

FORT WORTH – Texas Tech had a 34-21 lead over TCU late in the third quarter, but faltered defensively in the fourth quarter as the Horned Frogs lost 35-34 on Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth. came away with victory.

Here are five takeaways from the game.

Technology recovers after the disaster begins

After the first quarter, it looked like it was going to be an ugly game in Fort Worth as the Red Raiders had no answer for TCU wide receiver Savion Williams, who was in the backfield for both scores, one receiving and one rushing .

Tech quickly recovered after faltering early with the help of a strip sack recovered by Harvey Dyson III. Dyson's attempt was a bigger answer for Tech, pressuring the quarterback for three quarters.

Tech remains behind in fourth place

The Tech defense seemed to have figured out the answer to stopping the TCU offense — until the Frogs exploded on offense to win the game.

An 84-yard touchdown from TCU wide receiver Eric McAlister made the difference. He defeated Texas Tech defender Macho Stevenson on the TCU sideline, capping the comeback.

Fake field goal provides the spark in the first half

After Dyson's strip sack and fumble recovery, the Red Raiders used a few tricks to get into the end zone.

Tech's offense traditionally failed to connect from TCU's 4-yard line, but managed to get into the end zone with a fake field goal kicked by kicker Reese Burkhardt, giving the Red Raiders a 17th :14 lead at half.

Morton suffers an injury near the halfway point

Texas Tech lost its quarterback Behren Morton after he lunged at his left shoulder for a yardage with 1:35 left in the first half. He was sacked on Tech's final play of the half.

Morton did not return to the game in the second half and was seen with a sling on his left shoulder. It was reminiscent of the throwing shoulder injury that hampered him throughout the 2023 season.

Tech falls two games short of Ames

The Red Raiders have now lost two straight in the Big 12, both devastating losses, but for different reasons. A blowout loss at home to Baylor and a fourth-quarter collapse on the road against TCU wiped out Tech's great start to Big 12 play.

Tech now travels to Iowa State to face the 7-0 (4-0 Big 12) Cyclones, which appears to be a daunting task for the Red Raiders.
