Bill Belichick doesn't think the Patriots got enough by trading Josh Uche to the Chiefs

The Patriots traded pass rusher Josh Uche to the Chiefs today for a 2026 sixth-round pick, and former Patriots coach Bill Belichick doesn't think the move helps New England.

Belichick, who drafted Uche in 2020 and coached him for four years, said on The Pat McAfee Show that the Patriots likely would have received at least a 2026 sixth-round compensatory pick for Uche anyway if he had left in free agency and So if I had let him, it's not worth it now.

“Uche expires this year, he will be a free agent. If they don't sign him, they're going to get a comp pick that's probably going to be a sixth-rounder anyway,” Belichick said. “Look, Josh Uche is a really good rusher. He didn't have a chance to make an impact for the Patriots this year because they were behind by a lot. The situation was not good. But he had a big year two years ago. Now he (Matthew) had Judon on the other side, so it was two good pass rushers. But he will have plenty of opportunities to make an impact in Kansas City. I think it will really help them. He has surprising strength for his size. He has excellent speed and a good start. And he has some flexibility in coverage. So I think it's a good addition for a team that needs another pass rusher, which everyone does. Josh can do it. He will definitely help them.”

Belichick thinks that if the Patriots had played their cards better, they could have gotten a better return.

“The Patriots probably should have gotten more for him,” Belichick said.

Belichick, who last week criticized Patriots coach Jerod Mayo for calling his team soft, hasn't held back this year in his comments about the Patriots and his criticism of the way his old team now does business .
