Bonus notes, observations from a second viewing of Alabama's win over Georgia

We're back.

Loyal readers may remember this weekly Sunday series from my time as a beat writer covering Alabama. There has been a hiatus after transitioning into a new role last spring, but we dust off for special occasions.

So here is the Sunday DVR replay of Alabama's 41-34 win over Georgia. For the uninitiated, this was a series to go back and clean up the notes we missed while watching the game in real time at the stadium. Sometimes the TV copy of the game can add context to what we saw, and rather than waste those notes, we simply made them available for the entire internet to read.

So let's get to stream-of-consciousness note-taking as we look at this a second time.

– Coming out, I was expecting to see a Georgia team with their hair on fire after an entire offseason to reflect on what Alabama stole from them in last season's SEC title game. I was clearly wrong.

– From the first game, I was surprised to see Georgia play Ryan Williams. The CBs stood well away from the ball, allowing a free turnover for a quick 8-yard gain on the first play.

– Running back Jam Miller threw impressive blocks several times. He's a strong defender who only managed five runs, but made an impact in other ways as well. It's worth noting that the Alabama RBs only allowed 11 runs while Jalen Milroe managed 16 times.

– It's hard to explain the wobble and burst that Milroe shows in the running game. He makes rushers miss with phone booth moves, and the next gear burst in the open field is unlike almost any QB I've ever seen.

— Alabama survived three penalties on its first drive and scored the first touchdown Georgia allowed on its fourth play. The Tide set the tone physically and with a great game plan.

– It was clear that Georgia was testing Alabama's young secondary early and often after seeing how many open WRs missed the Tide's first three opponents. It didn't work early. Then it happened later.
