Bonuses and the 5 biggest takeaways from Abu Dhabi

4 minutes, 20 seconds Read

UFC 308 was everything it was supposed to be, maybe even more. We saw spectacular performances in the main and co-main event and some great fights.

Here are the five biggest takeaways from UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Ilia Topuria is the real deal

Topuria reminds me a lot of Gervonta Davis.

He is a smaller power puncher who seems to lose the first part of his fights against elite competition. However, he always seems to be on the lookout for his prey, and when he catches it, Topuria is finished.

When a young fighter brimming with confidence starts predicting big things for himself and actually achieves his goals, you know you're dealing with someone special.

Topuria has reached this level. We can no longer claim that he hasn't fought against top competition. Critics can no longer pick random names and suggest that fighters with a certain dominant style could give Topuria a tough fight.

We now have to wonder how far he can go if he continues his dominant run.

Khamzat Chimaev is a scary guy

I've never seen Robert Whittaker or anyone like him drop out of a template so quickly. After UFC 308, we found out why a tough guy like Whittaker would quickly submit to Khamzat Chimaev.

The face crank Chimaev clung to Whittaker's face and jaw so tightly that the lower part of the latter's grill collapsed. Here's a look at Dr. Brian Sutterer breaking down the extent of Whittaker's injury.

During the post-fight press conference, Dana White discussed the possibility of Chimaev jumping over Sean Strickland and challenging Khamzat Chimaev for the middleweight title.

Chimaev is not legit.

Shara Bullet looks like the next middleweight superstar

There may not be a better knockout than the one Shara Magomedov delivered against Armen Petrosyan on Saturday. In case you missed it, here's a look at the double spinning back fist KO.

No matter how long you watch MMA, you may never see a knockout like this again. Shara Bullet has the “it” factor and understands the art of the callout.

After the fight, Shara called out Israel Adesanya. This fight could be great, and if Shara wins, he'll launch himself into superstardom.

Alex Pereira has to fight Magomed Ankalaev next

Ankalaev has criticized the UFC and Alex Pereira for denying him a shot at the UFC light heavyweight title. It seems like Ankalaev won't have to wait much longer.

During Ankalaev's unanimous decision victory over Aleksandar Rakic, the former vowed that he would never shoot for a takedown.

He didn't and was just as effective en route to victory. According to Dana White, Ankalaev is next for Pereira.

Ibo Aslan is a name to remember

Aslan made quick work of the previously unbeaten Rafael Cerqueira. It took Aslan just under a minute to secure the win, and now the powerful light heavyweight could be headed for a main event in his next outing.

Here's a look at all the results from UFC 308. Bonus prize winners are in bold.
