Boston is coming off of back-to-back shutout wins

BOSTON – The Bruins defeated the Seattle Kraken 2-0 at TD Garden on Sunday night after knocking out the Philadelphia Flyers on the road by the same score the day before.

The games had similarities that Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery wasn't exactly happy with, but he saw his team more true to its identity in the two games.

“I liked our first period, but I didn’t like the second period, which was very similar to the Flyers’ game,” he said. “I love the effort of blocking shots. I love that we stick together, (Trent Frederic) defending (Matthew) Poitras tonight. How we stuck together at the end of the game against the Flyers last night.

“You could see us coming together. We protect the slot. We sacrifice for each other, which is a start. Our implementation still needs to grow. Our level of maturity as a team when it comes to game management still needs to grow. We are now in a winning zone. You don't give up goals and your goalkeepers pay just as well as we do. It's a good step. We are on the right track. November was much better than October.”

Charlie Coyle in particular had an outstanding game for the Bruins, and Montgomery was quick to praise the forward's efforts throughout the weekend.

“I just think Charlie Coyle has been moving his feet the last two nights. When he moves his feet, he creates turnovers, he puts pucks in the net,” Montgomery said. “For example, this game in a penalty shootout where he was able to pull away at times. He walked through two people and it was like he had a silverback gorilla on his back and he just kept going. That’s the commitment and the type of persistence we want in our group.”

Coyle scored an absolutely wonderful power play goal to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the first period and his second goal of the season.

“It was a great look from (Brad Marchand). “Me and (David Pastrnak) kind of switched each other,” Coyle explained. “(If Pastranak) is in the middle, he will bring a lot of people (to him). I don't think they're too worried about me, and Marchy found me. … It was a great performance by Marchy, the power play move by Pasta, who probably doesn't get a point with it, but he takes two or three people with him because they're all focused on him and he's a big part of that play.”

— David Pastrnak didn't play a single shift in the third period of the Black and Gold's win over the Kraken.

“Coach’s decision, third half,” Montgomery said after the game. “That’s all I’m going to say about it.”

– Boston recorded shutouts in back-to-back regular-season games for the first time since 2011, when they consecutively eliminated the New York Islanders and Montreal Canadiens. It was the first time since 2008 against the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks that the Bruins posted shutouts in back-to-back games.

– The Bruins' penalty kill was a perfect 3-on-3, while the power play only capitalized on one of Seattle's five infractions.

– Boston defeated Seattle 33-23 in the contest, blocking another 27 Kraken shots before advancing to Jeremy Swayma, who earned his first shutout of the season.

– The Bruins and NESN honored longtime franchise announcer Jack Edwards in a pregame ceremony that featured a stand dedication featuring Edwards' signature line, “From high above the ice…”

– Boston will look to extend its winning streak to three games when the club travels north of the border to Toronto in an Original Six matchup against the Leafs on Tuesday night. Puck drop from Scotiabank Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. You can watch the game and an hour of early coverage on NESN.
