Breer: Patriots receive calls on Osborn, Thornton before trade deadline originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The NFL trade deadline is scheduled for November 5, and the New England Patriots already made a notable move on Monday when they sent edge rusher Josh Uche to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick.

Could the Patriots make more moves with a week to go before the deadline?

Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated moved to NBC Sports Boston Early Arbella edition on Tuesday evening and gave an update on which players are drawing interest from other teams.

“I heard they got calls and are relaying calls to cornerbacks and wide receivers,” Breer said, as seen in the video player above.

“…The names I heard are actually interesting. It's KJ Osborn and it's Tyquan Thornton. And I think the reason Thornton has some value to teams is because you can do that kind of speed. “I don't coach it, do I?” So every coach looks at a guy like that and says, “I can do something with him.”

“So if you want to bring some maturity into the room, maybe a player-for-player trade, trade Tyquan Thornton to the Carolina Panthers for Adam Thielen. That might be something you might want to look into, right? Maybe.” On top of that, you’re sending the Panthers a pick.

“As far as cornerback goes, obviously they’re not trading Christian Gonzalez. I don’t think they want to trade Jonathan Jones, but I think they’re open to anyone else.”

The Thielen scenario is interesting. He is in his 11th professional season – his second with the Panthers – and has had a very productive career. However, he has not played since Week 3 due to a hamstring injury.

It's no secret that the Patriots are in a complete rebuild. Would Thielen even want to come to New England? Or would he like a rival team more? Thielen is 34 years old and has only played six playoff games in his career. He has never won a Super Bowl.

The Patriots have plenty of depth at wide receiver, and it makes sense to turn it into a draft pick or two if the right deal(s) come together before the trade deadline.
