Brown Bears betting preview

The Bears posted an overall record of 13-18 a season ago and went 8-6 in Ivy League play. Brown finished behind Princeton, Yale and Cornell in the overall rankings. In the conference tournament, the Bears defeated Princeton before losing to Yale in the championship.

Mike Martin is back for his 12th season as head coach at Brown. He will lose three players in Kalu Anya (St. Louis), Kimo Ferrari (San Diego State) and Malachi Ndur (William & Mary) who have to be transferred. However, leading rebounder and second-leading scorer Nana Owusu-Anane is back.

Siena Saints betting preview

The Saints had a tough 2023-24 season with a 4-28 overall record and 3-17 mark in the MAAC. Siena finished in absolute last place in the standings, one game behind Manhattan. A loss to Niagara in the conference tournament opener ended the year.

Siena will have a new head coach this year in Gerry McNamara and he will have a completely new squad. No one from last season returned, so guys like Myles Wilmoth (Hofstra) and Peter Carey (Syracuse) will have an immediate impact after transferring.

Why the Siena Saints will win

  • Siena has won eight of its last nine home games on Monday.
  • Brown has lost each of its last five Monday games against non-conference opponents.

Why the Brown Bears will win

  • Siena has lost each of its last 11 games at MVP Arena.
  • Brown has won 10 of its last 11 games against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
  • Siena has lost the first half in seven of its last eight night games at MVP Arena against opponents not ranked in the AP.

Matchup/League Facts

  • Siena ranked 360th among Division 1 teams in defensive rating last season (111.9).
  • Siena ranked 360th among Division 1 teams in turnover percentage (20.2%) last season.

Brown vs Siena Prediction

I'll stick with Brown. Last year, the Bears were seconds away from their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1986, but suffered a major collapse late in the conference tournament championship. There's still plenty of talent left on this team, including Owusu-Anane and Kino Lilly (18.8 PPG). The Ivy League will be fiercely competitive this year, but Brown should be in the mix.

As for Siena, they are starting relatively fresh with a major roster overhaul in 2024-25. It will take a few games before we get a feel for the Saints' future this year, so I don't think they'll be able to make the proverbial cover right away.
