Bruins coach sends important message to Fabian Lysell

Boston Bruins top prospect Fabian Lysell had a disappointing first preseason game for the Original Six Club against the New York Rangers on Sunday (Sept. 22). The 2021 first-round pick failed to make a single shot during the game and had two turnovers. With Lysell looking to make the Bruins' opening-game roster, this was not the start he needed.

Now Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery Lysell sent an important message today (September 24) in a conversation with reporters, including WEEI’s Scott McLaughlin:

“He's going to have to do a little bit more than he has done so far if he wants to make it to the Bruins.”

With Lysell having a quiet first preseason game, it's understandable that Montgomery expects more from the 2021 first-round pick. The Bruins have some spots to fight for in their forward group, but Lysell will need to make a bigger impact if he wants to get his first chance in the NHL.

Lysell is back on the Bruins roster tonight for their game against the Washington Capitals, and it will be interesting to see how he responds to Montgomery's message through his play from here on out.
