Bruins vs. Flyers 11/2/24 SUMMARY: With a 3-0 shutout, B's is making as much progress as possible!

3 minutes, 27 seconds Read

First period

The Bruins actually had a really strong stretch; The Flyers had no real interest in testing Korpisalo, so they slowly created chances over the course of the period before they finally came Matthew Poitras managed to hit the net after a backhand to Aleksei Kolosov after a long shot from Hampus Lindholm! 1-0 Bruins!

No further judgment and we move on.

2nd period:

The Bruins' second period was…largely the same? Huh. They actually maintained pressure well through the midframe and hit paydirt for the For the second time, Brad Marchand made a trip through the Flyers' zone and got a chance from Justin Brazeau, who put the B's ahead 2-0 with a direct hit!

A great substitution for Marchy, a great goal for Brazeau, just great work all around.

The section ended without further scoring and now we continue with the last frame.

3rd period:

Okay, so the Bruins ended this game with a win, no spoilsport, but as the quarter entered its final minutes, former Bruin Garnet Hathaway decided he'd had enough of the Flyers playing like crazy and decided to take it out on his former team; It started with a cross-check on Charlie McAvoy, which then led to Mark Kastelic subbing in for his defender, causing even more penalties, and a game that looked like there would only be two penalties per team ballooned suddenly opened up, so that both sides only got a boost from minors.

Luckily, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak gave the Bruins the last laugh, just as the Flyers once pulled their goalie; In the end, they handed the puck to Pasta, who sent it to the B captain, who played it home from the defensive zone.

The Bruins defeated the Flyers with a 3-0 win!

Game notes

  • Their TOI leader was Charlie McAvoy, who logged 23:37.
  • Well, that's a real game if they can build on it. The Flyers are bad, there's a reason you can knock them out like the Bruins, completely, but they played the game they played may win at; Hammer the net over and over again and above again and make ample use of Philly's numerous mistakes. That's how they won a lot of their games last year (outside the goalie of course) and that's how they can win this year if they stick together.
  • A two-point night for the captain, an empty net player, a solid shot through strong possession in the offensive zone and solid shooting numbers. He desperately needed an evening that would establish him as a tone-setter, and this attempt more than did it justice. It just has to stay that way!
  • Matthew Poitras' opening goal set the stage for an extremely productive evening; He led the team in analysis and played strong with the puck all night. Considering what this team is asking of this kid, that's an improvement.
  • The Lindholms had a good night. Both received an assist, both had strong possession of the ball, there were no real criticisms against these two tonight.
  • Pavel Zacha needs some sort of divine intervention to actually achieve a goal. He has good analytics and was tied with Brazeau, Marchand and Pastrnak in shots on goal… and he can't get one through. If you are a superstitious type, align all your rituals with one goal for him!
  • While Brad Marchand's night was helpful, no one in the world needed this game more than Joonas Korpisalo. Unfortunately, Korpisalo's contract and the Bruins' tenure went as advertised; Even when he performed halfway decently, the team in front of him couldn't take advantage of it. Goaltending is about both a lot of skill and a mental game, so to have a shutout, and a pretty convincing one at that, is huge for the guy. I really want him to coach in Boston and a game like this is an important step towards that.

There's no better time for another game! The Kraken come to town to face the Bruins. The game is today and the preview is here at 7am!

See you in the game thread!
