Connecticut and much of the country were treated to quite the light show Thursday night.

The Northern Lights were visible across large parts of the state and spread a spectacular display of colors across the sky.

Space forecasters had issued a severe geomagnetic storm warning after a powerful solar flare and coronal mass ejection began on Tuesday.

Normally, the Northern Lights are seen much further north, towards the Arctic Circle, but the geomagnetic storm was so strong that it produced bright colors in more southern latitudes.

Although the geomagnetic storm's strength has diminished, there is still a chance we could see the aurora borealis again in Connecticut on Friday evening.

If it does happen, it likely won't be as intense or widespread as Thursday.

To have the best chance of seeing them, stay in a dark place with no light pollution. The best time to see them is just after sunset.

We received hundreds of photos of Thursday's light show from viewers across Connecticut. If you take photos of the Northern Lights on Friday evening, share them with us here.
