DeSales overcomes Ready's comeback and takes fourth win in a row

In a rematch of one of Central Ohio's best games of 2023, when Ready won 43-42 in overtime in the first meeting between the two programs since 1986, DeSales was determined not to repeat that result against its old CCL rival.

The Stallions needed one play to take the lead. Jonathan Brown got a handoff on DeSales' first play and ran 55 yards through a huge hole on the right side of the scrimmage, giving the Stallions a 7-0 lead just 14 seconds into the game.

The Stallions' second drive took much longer than the first, but the result was the same. DeSales ran 73 yards in 10 plays, and quarterback RJ Day squeezed in a 13-yard pass into the front left corner of the end zone to make it 14-0 with 3:05 left in the first quarter.

DeSales then forced a three-and-out and began its next possession at the Ready 27. The Stallions needed two plays to score again: a 17-yard keeper by Day and then a 10-yard touchdown run by Brown to make it 21-0.

The Silver Knights responded with their best drive of the night. A 26-yard pass after a fake punt from their own 30-yard line kept the drive alive, and four plays later, Jacob Cheatham found Henry Larger on a 17-yard slant route to increase the lead to 21-7 with 9:31 minutes left in the first half.

Ready forced a punt and took over at his own 36-yard line, then ran in another touchdown. Anthony Campbell ran all six plays of the drive and scored a one-yard touchdown to cut the Knights' deficit to 21-14 with 4:29 left in the half. Campbell had completed 19 carries for 126 yards.

The Knights finished the half with a strong defensive effort. DeSales drove to Ready's 12 but backed off from there and Elvis Castro Alvarado missed a 39-yard field goal at the end of the half.

Ready got the ball first in the second half and tied it at 21-21 when a 12-play, 62-yard drive culminated in another touchdown by Campbell from one yard out.

DeSales answered with his first touchdown since the first quarter, marching 50 yards in 11 plays. Brown scored his third touchdown, this time from one yard out, to make the score 28-21 to the Stallions with 2:11 left in the third quarter. That was the score after three.

The Stallions added extra security in the fourth period when John Hockaday scored from 34 yards with 5:51 left to extend the lead to 35-21.

DeSales won for the fourth time in a row and Ready lost for the fourth time in a row.

Gahanna Lincoln overwhelms Dublin Coffman

Gahanna began its opening drive at midcourt and scored quickly when Taizaun Burns took a short pass from Brennen Ward 49 yards for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead with 8:54 remaining in the first quarter.

Coffman took advantage of the short field to tie the game by taking over at the Gahanna 42-yard line after the snap went over Ward's head on fourth down. A 13-yard touchdown pass from Amari Valerio-Hudson to Cameron Hairston tied the game with 11:55 left in the second quarter.

Gahanna took a 14-7 lead into halftime and got the ball early in the second half. Ward's 9-yard touchdown pass to Zavier Lindsay put the Lions ahead with 32 seconds left in the second quarter. Ward completed 12 of 15 passes for 149 yards in the first half. But penalties were a problem for Gahanna. There were six penalties for 61 yards in the first half.

Gahanna's Jake Bushelman scored a 92-yard touchdown after the second-half kickoff to give the Lions a 20-7 lead.

Avion Brown provided the next big play for Gahanna, running 73 yards for a touchdown to make the lead 27-7 with 7:44 left in the third quarter. Brown had 13 carries for 130 yards.

Coffman responded quickly: Christian Werling caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Valerio Hudson, cutting the Shamrocks' lead to 27-14 with 6:44 left in the third quarter.

A few minutes later, Gahanna extended its lead to 20 with Ward's 44-yard touchdown pass to Burns, making it 34-14.

Coffman, however, was not going to give up without a fight. Valerio-Hudson's 28-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Hairston put the team up 34-21 with 10:13 minutes left. At that point, Valerio-Hudson had completed 11 of 16 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns.

With 24 seconds left, Gahanna scored another touchdown on Kellen Rachal's 1-yard run.

The Lions finished the game with 491 total yards. Brown ran 25 times for 209 yards and Ward ran 18 of 23 times for 230 yards.

Gahanna improved to 3-2 with its second consecutive win. Coffman fell to 1-4.

Columbus Academy beats St. Charles in duel of the undefeated

Academy wanted to close the gap to 5-0 and inflict the first defeat on host St. Charles, but had the upper hand at the beginning.

After forcing a punt, the Vikings moved efficiently down the field and scored the game's first point when sophomore Griffin Bowman ran in a 2-yard run for a 7-0 lead with 6:09 left in the first quarter.

Academy's Parker Stoner opened the second quarter with an interception, allowing a 23-yard touchdown pass from Cole Spalding to Harmon Gouhin and a 14-0 Vikings lead with 11:50 left in the second quarter.

But a turnover by Academy gave St. Charles a goal. After Liam Nordstrom of the Cardinals recovered a botched punt by Gabe Davis-Ray, Ryan Mooney scored a 25-yard touchdown on a pass from Liam Schmidt. St. Charles missed the extra point and trailed Academy 14-6 with 9:04 left in the first half.

Academy had the next chance of the game when they recovered a loose ball after a punt was deflected by a St. Charles player. Abe Ulbrich capped a 16-yard run with a 2-yard touchdown run to make it 20-6 with 2:17 left in the half. Academy failed on the extra point attempt. That was also the halftime score.

Academy extended the lead to 27-6 midway through the third quarter when Gouhin made a one-handed catch in the back corner of the end zone. The Vikings' advance was aided by a personal foul on St. Charles on third-and-7 at the Cardinals' 38-yard line. That was the score after three.

St. Charles increased its lead to 27-13 on its second possession of the second half when Ryan Mooney hit Trey Davis for an 85-yard touchdown with 4:41 left. St. Charles then recovered the ensuing onside kick, but lost the ball with 2:16 left.

St. Charles scored a late goal to keep the gap the same as last year by an even score. Academy won 23-16 at home last season.
