Wednesday's NFL transactions report noted that Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire returned to practice with the team. As head coach Andy Reid confirmed during his meeting with reporters on Thursday, the team has opened a 21-day window for the fifth-year running back to practice with the team while on the reserve/NFI (non-football) list disease) remains.

“We’re going to work him out with the scouting team today – give him a few reps there – and just let him get back into the swing of things,” the head coach added. “He’s in good shape; he trained. We’re just getting him back into football.”

Kansas City placed Edwards-Helaire on the reserve/NFI list a few days before the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. He had previously missed several training camps due to what the team described as an “illness.”

In early August, Edwards-Helaire told reporters that he was suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) stemming from an incident during his time at LSU in which he and a teammate killed someone who was trying to rob them.

If things work out in practice, Edwards-Helaire could be added to the squad in time for Monday night's home game against the New Orleans Saints. The Chiefs currently have one open spot on their active roster.
