Jazz Chisholm Jr., who has received boos from Royals fans for his comments calling the team “just lucky,” accused Maikel Garcia of trying to hit infielder Anthony Volpe while sliding to second in the fourth Intentionally violating the ALDS game.

In the sixth inning of Thursday's game, with Garcia batting first, Michael Massey hit a grounder to first. Jon Berti threw the ball on the ball, stepped on the sack for the out, then threw it to second to move Garcia to second. Volpe put in a tough day and then patted Garcia on the shoulder after the game ended. Garcia stared at him and said a few words to the Yankees. The benches were cleared after the confrontation.

Eventually, all players returned without any physical altercation. After the game, Chisholm told reporters he felt Garcia was trying to shoot at his teammate.

“I just felt like he was trying to hurt Volpe because he was a sore loser. You know what I mean?” Chisholm said. “He talked a lot on Instagram and Twitter and stuff. I do the same thing, but I'm not going to hurt anyone if they win a game. I didn't like that. I did him said we’re not going to do that on this side and I’m going to stand up for my boys.”

Garcia had criticized Yankees starter Carlos Rodón over his on-field antics in Game 2 and posted on social media that he shouldn't “celebrate too soon.”

As for the boos, Chisholm said it made the Yankees' win “much better.”

“I love the noise,” he said. “I don’t want to block out the noise. I want to hear it. It was all good for me.”

The Yankees would win Thursday's game 3-1, win the series and advance to the ALCS, where they await the winner of the Guardians/Tigers series.

The Yankees return to Kauffman Stadium on June 10th next year, and you can bet Royals fans will be ready to make another splash for Jazz Chisholm.
