Cincinnati Bengals: 3 positions to target at NFL trade deadline

2 minutes, 14 seconds Read

The Cincinnati Bengals (4-5) are getting closer and closer to the title despite some glaring holes in the team.

With Joe Burrow having a career season and Tee Higgins possibly on his way out, now is the time to make a move.

So what positions do the Bengals need to improve the most?

Defensive line

Cincinnati needs both another pass rusher opposite Trey Hendrickson and someone who can generate pressure from the middle of the line. Oh, and it would be nice to be able to stop the run too.

The need for more D-line help was compounded by the fact that BJ Hill left Sunday's game with a rib injury and was quickly sidelined. It is the second time he has been injured this season.

New York Giants edge rusher Azeez Ojulari is a possible option, as are Carolina Panthers edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney and New Orleans Saints' Chase Young.

Defensive tackles that could make sense include Sebastian Joseph-Day of the Tennessee Titans and Dalvin Tomlinson of the Cleveland Browns.

Cornerback

The Bengals currently do not have a shutdown corner. If they want to compete with the best QBs in the postseason, adding one before the deadline is a must. After Dax Hill's season-ending injury, the position simply lacks impact. But even at Hill, the secondary rarely kept up with the competition.

One potential target could be Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jack Jones, who took out Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in Week 9 and brought him to the house.

Other possible options include Panthers cornerback Jaycee Horn, Los Angeles Rams' Tre'Davious White and Saints' Marshon Lattimore.

Run back

Chase Brown had a great game against the Raiders. But he was also the only non-QB to run the ball. This is not sustainable.

The Bengals could use a running back to replace Zack Moss' workload after he suffered a neck injury that could put him on IR. Another running back could also provide Burrow with protection in the passing game.

Some running backs that could be available include Travis Etienne of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson of the Miami Dolphins, and Miles Sanders of the Panthers.

One free agent the Bengals could consider is Boston Scott, who is now healthy and will begin working out for teams.
