Could Ty Jerome be a mainstay in the rotation?

The Cleveland Cavaliers host the Detroit Pistons in their season opener tonight. Here are your news and links to guide you to the game time.

The first sip

Kenny Atkinson opted for a ten-man rotation before the start of the game against the Toronto Raptors. Whether or not he would have switched to this rotation if Darius Garland had committed three personal fouls in the first quarter and another in the second is unknown. What we do know is that Ty Jerome made the most of his opportunity, posting 14 points, six assists and two steals in 19 minutes.

Jerome made an immediate impact in the second quarter. He assisted on four baskets in this quarter alone. It was all thanks to the bigs to keep the momentum going during their incredible second quarter run.

These plays all show his understanding of where the bigs need the ball and where the windows are to feed them. That's something the Cavs haven't had in a backup point guard since Ricky Rubio.

It would be unwise to make too much of a performance against a bad Toronto team. But it would be incredibly useful for the Cavs to continue to build bigs like he did as a primary and secondary playmaker. Whether he can keep up is another question and will determine whether he can be a mainstay in the rotation.
