In addition to the presidential election, Tennessee's 2024 election means all 99 members of the state's House of Representatives and half of the state's 33 senators will vote. There are also three high-profile federal elections taking place: incumbent Republican US Senator Marsha Blackburn will face the state's Democratic representative. Gloria Johnson in one.

There are competitive races in two congressional districts. In District 5, embattled incumbent Republican Congressman Andy Ogles of District 5 faces Nashville activist Maryam Abolfazli, and District 7 Rep. Mark Green faces former Nashville Mayor Megan Barry.

“Too much like reality TV.” Voters are ready to move on to the next chapter.

At the Bellevue branch of the Nashville Public Library, where there were long lines for early voting, about 65 people had voted by 7:30 a.m., said Tom Bayersdorfer, an election supervisor.

The library serves as a polling place for two west Nashville precincts, and Bayersdorfer said they are prepared for plenty of voters: 18 people work on Election Day in the small precinct with fewer than 10 voting booths.

As Daryl Rocco and Robert Stefanovich left the library after voting, they had different perspectives on the 2024 presidential election.

“I hope for Kamala and maybe something could change,” Rocco said.

“The real problems facing the country will not be solved no matter who wins,” Stefanovich said. “I would be happy if we could move on to the next chapter.”

Both expressed criticism of the role of media reporting in this year's election.

“It’s too much like reality TV,” Rocco said of the coverage. “People watch it like it’s reality TV, but it’s not.”

Rocco avoids almost all media outlets and turns to the Associated Press for reliable information, she said.
