Detroit Lions WR Kalif Raymond reflects on his NFL journey after a standout game

The Lions signed Raymond, re-signed him, and then re-signed him to a two-year deal before the 2023 season, and he has become one of the key pieces of this football team. Not only has he been one of the league's consistently good punt returners in recent seasons, but he can also play all three receiver positions.

Raymond received a game ball from Campbell after recording 190 punt return yards on five returns (38.0 average), including a 64-yard return and a 90-yard touchdown return. He also caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff in the third quarter, becoming the only player in team history to record a punt return touchdown and a receiving touchdown in the same game.

“I tell the guys all the time, 'Talk to (Raymond).' Some of these young guys. I say, 'Do you want to know the reality of this league? Go talk to him,” Campbell said of Raymond’s journey.

“It will give you perspective.” Don’t know what it takes? Why did the things they did happen? It could be that the coaching staff just doesn't see the value, it could be that he's too small, it could be, “Well, he's just a returner.” It could be, “Well, he didn't play with confidence back then.”

“And I use him as an example, but there are so many factors at play. And I know that everything was perfect for him, it was the right mix and the environment was great. And he was outstanding.” and I can talk all day about his confidence and everything he brings to the table as a player. But he's just one of those guys.”
