DiJonai Carrington jokes about Fever's Caitlin Clark and NaLyssa Smith

Perhaps the biggest storyline of this WNBA postseason arose when Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington nudged Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark during the Fever's Game 1 loss to the Sun last month.

Not only was the eye poke (which both Clark and Carrington claimed was unintentional) the subject of much debate and controversy, but the entire stabbing reached a whole new level of infamy when USA Today reporter Christine Brennan, decided to ask Carrington, “When?” You kind of hit Caitlin, were you planning on hitting her in the eye?” on September 24th.

This sparked outrage from the WNPBA, which released a statement in response to Brennan's question on X, taking the reporter to task.

From then on, Suns forward DeWanna Bonner had an alleged confrontation with Brennan over her question, which then turned into a whole additional storyline between Brennan and reporter Sarah Spain over whether Brennan had filed a complaint with the WNBA about the events between her and Bonner had submitted.

All of this is to say that Carrington's infamous eye look became a serious, nuanced matter with many implications for many different people.

That didn't stop Carrington and her friend NaLyssa Smith – Clark's teammate at Indiana – from poking fun at the first incident during an Instagram live stream.

X user @NaiLyssa_Muse posted an excerpt from Smith's Instagram Live on Wednesday in which she and Carrington were cooking together. Smith accidentally poked Carrington in the eye as he turned around in the kitchen.

“You caught my eye,” Carrington said to Smith, smiling. Then the two started freaking out.

“Did you do it on purpose?” Carrington then asked twice, in what appeared to be a clear mockery of Brennan's first question to her over two weeks ago.

Thanks to Carrington and Smith for taking the whole situation with a laugh.
