Emeka Egbuka of the Ohio State Buckeyes scores a long touchdown

The Ohio State Buckeyes fell behind early against the Marshall Thundering Herd, but wide receiver Emeka Egbuka quickly turned that around.

Egbuka caught a bubble screen pass from quarterback Will Howard, blocked the ball brilliantly and then stormed down the middle of the field for a 68-yard touchdown.

It was the first touchdown of the season for Egbuka, who entered the year as the most experienced receiver on Ohio State's roster.

Before facing Marshall, Egbuka had recorded nine catches for 149 yards in the first two games of the season, but he was the only one of the Buckeyes' top three wide receivers – the other two being Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate – who had not yet reached the end zone.

That obviously changed on Saturday afternoon.

Egbuka's big play came after Ohio State allowed the Thundering Herd to go on a 13-play, 75-yard touchdown drive, marking the first time in 2024 that the Buckeyes allowed an opponent to reach the end zone.

The Buckeyes allowed just six points in their first two games and had a clean sheet win over the Western Michigan Broncos in week two.

Ohio State had a bye in Week 3.

Egbuka came to Columbus in 2021. His breakthrough came in his sophomore year, where he caught 74 passes for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Last year, Egbuka was only able to play ten games due to injury and caught 41 passes for 464 yards and scored four points.

He decided to return to the Buckeyes instead of declaring for the NFL Draft.
