The Flyers experienced a troubling development in the first period of their game against the Bruins at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday afternoon.

Samuel Ersson had to leave the game after just 7:36 minutes after a conversation with head sports coach Tommy Alva.

He was forced to miss the game in the second period due to a lower body injury. There was no further information about his status.

The goalkeeper made a save 53 seconds before the shot went off. The kick stop caused Ersson to lose his skate blade, which was quickly remedied by assistant equipment manager John Peters.

Aleksei Kolosov took over the net as Ersson headed up the tunnel with Alva. Ivan Fedotov became the club's emergency backup. The Flyers lost 3-0 as Kolosov stopped 20 of 22 shots. Boston's third goal was a miss.

“I thought he fought,” head coach John Tortorella said of the 22-year-old rookie. “It’s a damn good place to put him.”

The Flyers really can't afford to lose Ersson for any length of time. He is their No. 1 and had allowed just one goal in his last two starts, both wins for the Flyers.

“You know he's going to play every game, he's going to make some great saves for us and keep us in every game,” Nick Seeler said Thursday after the Flyers' 2-1 decision over the Blues. “That’s a goalie you want to play in front of.”

The team's backup situation is precarious at best with Kolosov and Fedotov. The two have five starts combined in NHL experience.
