The backlash facing legacy media over its coverage of former President Trump's recent comments about former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., extends far beyond his supporters.

At an event in Glendale, Arizona, Trump took a swipe at Cheney, who campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris, for being a “radical war hawk.”

“I don't blame (former Vice President Dick Cheney) for sticking with his daughter, but his daughter is a very stupid person.” She, okay? Let's see how she feels with the guns pointed at her face.” “You know, they're all war hawks when they sit in the nice buildings in Washington and say, 'All right, let's get 10,000 troops right in send into the jaws of the enemy.'

Several news organizations distorted Trump's comments to make it appear that he was calling for Cheney's “execution.”

The New York Times headlined: “Trump attacks Liz Cheney with violent war images.” The Washington Post published: “Trump suggests 'war hawk' Liz Cheney should have guns pointed at her face.” CNN's headline went even further continued and read: “Trump says 'war hawk' Liz Cheney should be shot to escalate violent rhetoric against her.” his opponents.

The Drudge Report went viral with the headline at the top of the page in big red capital letters: “TRUMP CALLS FOR EXECUTION OF CHENEY.”

From COVINGTON Catholics to border whips, liberal media outlets have been spreading “cheap fakes” lately.

The sensational reporting also took place on air.

“Former President Donald Trump is escalating his violent rhetoric and suggesting that one of his most prominent critics, former Congresswoman Liz Cheney, should be shot,” CNN anchor Kasie Hunt told viewers.

Hunt's CNN colleague Jim Acosta criticized Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., over Trump's comments, saying: “When he says there are nine barrels firing at them, that obviously conjures up images of a firing squad.” It conjures up images of an execution, doesn't it?”

MSNBC's Jonathan Lemire called it “the latest escalation of really dangerous, violent rhetoric,” while former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told “The View” co-hosts it was “absolutely” a threat to Cheney.

However, not everyone believes the narrative. And not just Trump's defenders.

Critics of the former president from across the political spectrum criticize the media's coverage.

“Trump did NOT call for the execution of Liz Cheney,” former Republican congressman and anti-Trump critic Joe Walsh responded to I campaigned for the election of @KamalaHarris for three months, but this short clip is NOT calling for Liz Cheney executed in front of the firing line. “

“He is an absolutely terrible person who is completely unfit for office, but the truth should always matter. And the truth is, Trump is not calling for the execution of Liz Cheney,” Walsh added.

LIZ CHENEY blasts Trump in new Key Battleground Harris ad as the election enters its final stretch

“Donald Trump did not call for the execution of Liz Cheney. This is a blatant lie,” wrote Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur. “He made it clear that she was a chickenhawk. But Trump also shouldn’t be talking about pointing guns at their faces, especially at a time when we’re worried about political violence.”

“This is a classic case of Trump saying something outrageous and the press bailing him out by deliberately misleading him. You didn't have to lie about it for the comment to be completely irresponsible. And if you do that, you lose all credibility, and no.” “You believe everything you say,” Uygur continued.

TV exec panics that Trump's win means press has no influence: 'The mainstream media is dead'

“I don't support Donald Trump, but I also don't support journalists who lie to their audiences and when he says (paraphrased), 'These pro-war advocates wouldn't talk such a big game if they were on the front lines.' “It's actually not the same as saying they should be shot,” said Free Press columnist Kat Rosenfield.

“Folks, Trump didn’t threaten to execute Liz Cheney,” said Vox correspondent Zack Beauchamp. “He actually called her a chickenhawk, something liberals have been saying about her for ages. Look at the context – Trump is talking about giving her a gun. Normally people who are put in front of a firing squad are not armed.”

BIDEN'S 'Trash' Shot Against Trump Supporters Downplayed, Dismissed and Twisted by Media: 'Comes Back to an Apostrophe'

Political scientist Ian Bremmer criticized the Drudge Report headline, saying, “This is extraordinary irresponsibility, only made worse by the fact that it is becoming increasingly common across the political spectrum in the United States.”

“Trump's 'bloodbath' comment and his recent article about Liz Cheney are both exaggerated and taken out of context, while the press is making up apostrophes to excuse Joe Biden. Because of this, trust in the press is collapsing and Trump is on the verge of winning,” emphasized conservative radio host Erick Erickson.

“The corporate media has completely given up on trying to maintain even the slightest semblance of bipartisan neutrality,” wrote journalist Glenn Greenwald. “Compare this 'news article' from WashPost about what Trump said with what he actually said. That’s why, as Bezos told them, no one trusts them: rightly so.”
