The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a flash flood warning for Bulloch County and surrounding areas. Heavy rainfall threatens to cause life-threatening flooding into the morning of Thursday, November 7, posing serious risks in several communities.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston has issued a flash flood warning for Bulloch County and surrounding areas, including Candler, Evans, Jenkins, Screven and Tattnall counties. The warning is valid until Thursday morning, November 7, 2024, 10:15 a.m.

This area remains under a flood watch until Thursday evening.

The warning follows reports of heavy rainfall spreading across parts of Candler and Tattnall counties, with radar indicating areas of heavy rain that are expected to impact areas already saturated by overnight downpours. This situation has created the potential for life-threatening flash flooding in low-lying areas, creeks and streams, as well as urban areas and roads.

The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office is reporting flooded roads throughout the county and some dirt roads were washed out overnight. Use extreme caution when driving to work or school this morning.

The Bulloch County EMA reported that several homes on Chandler Road in the town of Statesboro were flooded overnight.

Statesboro and Bulloch Fire responded to multiple calls for assistance in extricating stranded motorists from their cars after driving onto flooded roads.

Danger: Life-threatening flash flood

Source: Precipitation indicated by radar

Effects: Flash flooding is expected in creeks, creeks, urban areas, highways and underpasses, posing a significant threat to life and property.

Areas most at risk include Statesboro, Metter, Sylvania, Portal, Collins, Cobbtown, Newington, Pulaski, Oliver and Register. Officials are urging residents of these areas to take extra precautions and avoid flooded roads because most flood-related deaths occur when people attempt to drive through water-covered roads.

Safety tips:

  • Turn around, don't drown: Do not attempt to cross flooded streets as the water may be deeper and faster than it appears.
  • Stay alert and aware of your surroundings, especially when traveling in flood-prone areas.
