Game-winning plays in the Jaguars' Week 8 loss

1 minute, 59 seconds Read

1. Wow. Just wow. Sunday's game was the Jaguars' third playoff loss in eight games. What hurt just as much was Packers kicker Brandon McManus' 24-yard field goal on the final play of the game with 1:04 left on a 51-yard pass from backup quarterback Malik Willis to wide receiver Jayden Reed fell – undoing one of the most impressive goals driving/playing Jaguars in recent memory. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence drove the Jaguars 87 yards for a game-winning touchdown while the team's top three receivers – Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr. – were sidelined with injuries. As a result, tight ends Evan Engram and Brenton Strange, wide receiver Parker Washington and running back D'Ernest Johnson were the key receivers on the drive. The final play of the drive: a beautiful 14-yard pass to Engram, who made a curved, leaping reception to score the game-winning touchdown. “I gave the guy a great release, so I knew Trevor would see it,” Engram said. “I knew for sure the ball was going to be up there. I just went up and caught him. Everyone was definitely talking about him floating up there, but yeah, I just went up there and caught him.” The late rally came after Lawrence lost a fumble inside the Jaguars' 10, which led to a Packers touchdown and a 27-17 Green Bay's lead early in the fourth quarter. “You can’t turn the ball over that deep,” head coach Doug Pederson said. “We know that. The resilient part of it is how we fought back and put ourselves in a position to decide the football game. That's the attitude we have to have in the first quarter. We will work on that in the future.”

2. Big ride. The Jaguars recovered from a slow second quarter and took the lead late in the third quarter with perhaps their best performance of the season to that point. With the Packers leading 13-10 at halftime, the teams exchanged punts before the Jaguars gained possession at their 7-yard line. The Jaguars then went 93 yards in 10 plays, with Lawrence completing a 14-yard touchdown pass to Thomas to take the lead with 5:10 left in the third quarter. Key plays: A two-yard sneak by Lawrence on fourth-and-1 from the Packers 48-yard line, followed by Lawrence's 26-yard completion to Kirk two plays later for a first down at the Packers 19.
