Heidi Klum debuts her elaborate ET Halloween costume after Janelle Monáe makes her own version

Heidi Klum proves once again that she is the Halloween queen!

On Thursday, October 31, the 51-year-old supermodel hosted her 23rd annual Halloween party at Hard Rock Hotel New York: The Venue on Music Row.

Klum and her husband Tom, known for their extravagant Halloween costumes over the years, appeared as female and male versions of ET from Steven Spielberg's 1982 film ET the alien.

On the red carpet, Klum told PEOPLE that she decided to embody the character because ET has been “a part of most of our lives” and she has always been “a big fan.”

“(I) was kind of thinking about the universe differently and thought ET was so cute and the way he wiggled around and all the moments where ET was dressing up with a wig and everything else, so I just thought it would be fun.” ET to become and especially to see two,” she says, noting that they started preparing since 11 a.m

Janelle Monáe also wore a costume of the iconic character, which she debuted on Instagram on Wednesday, October 30th.

Earlier this month, Monáe, 38, revealed to PEOPLE that her version of the costume was years in the making.

“I actually shared a costume idea with someone's team and tried to get a price for how much it would cost. And then I found out that this person was going to be that, and I had been planning this costume for two years,” she told PEOPLE, noting at the time that she would be dressed as “an iconic movie character.”

Klum revealed that she completed the final fitting of her costume on Wednesday.

“It will be very exciting,” Klum said in an Instagram video. “I just did my final fitting and it's going to be great. I hope.”

“See you all tomorrow,” she added before blowing a kiss to the camera.

On Thursday morning, Klum shared another video on her Instagram to mark the start of her Halloween celebrations.

“Good morning, New York,” she said. “It’s finally Halloween. A year in the making of this costume. I'm excited.”

“Happy Halloween 🎃 👻💀👀 Bring it people!!!!! Show us your costumes…” she added in her caption. “I'm so excited to see all your creations. I can't wait to show you mine. A year in the works 🥳I wish everyone a lot of fun and stay healthy ❤️.”

The America's Got Talent The judge also released a video of her in bed with Kaulitz, in which she asked him if he was ready for the day.

“Are you ready to celebrate Halloween with me?” she asked. “I love you.”
