The New Orleans Saints fired Dennis Allen on Monday, moving on from the head coaching position after two and a half seasons and a seven-game losing streak.

The team released a statement from Allen, who was an assistant with the Saints from 2006 to 2010 and then their successful defensive coordinator from 2015 to 2021 before becoming head coach when Sean Payton resigned.

Here's what Allen had to say in his prepared statement to owner Gayle Benson, general manager Mickey Loomis, his players and Saints fans:

“I would like to take this opportunity to first and foremost thank Gayle Benson for the opportunity to become head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The organization will always be close to my heart and I am disappointed that the results were not better.” I would also like to thank Mickey Loomis for the support he and his staff have provided throughout my time with the organization.

“I am proud to have worked with some great coaches, both as an assistant and during my time as head coach. I am truly grateful to these men for the time and effort they put into their work. I'm grateful for that too.” All staff have worked hard to provide support and will miss our daily interactions.

“Thank you to all players for your efforts and contributions. As I said on Sunday, I have never questioned your commitment and determination and I am sorry that the results were not better because they were definitely deserved.”

“Finally, I would like to thank the Saints fans and residents of New Orleans. I want to thank you for your unwavering passion and support of the team. I realize what a privilege it is to coach a special franchise in a great city and I will remember it fondly.” I had the opportunity to coach the Saints. I wish everyone at the Saints good luck and success for the future.

Allen finished his tenure as head coach of the Saints at 18-25. Including his time with the Oakland Raiders, he has served as a head coach between 26 and 53 years.
