Looking at the Halloween forecast might scare some people a little.

While some lucky places have the perfect, crisp fall weather for trick-or-treating, others may be dodging showers or sweating through their costumes for the holidays.

Here's what to expect during the day on Halloween: Parts of the northwest could see rain on Thursday and even snow in higher elevations.

A cold front will sweep across the central U.S. by mid- to late week, potentially bringing rain from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi Valley on Halloween. Some rumbles of thunder are possible near the Gulf Coast.

High temperatures could reach daily records in some Northeast cities, including Albany, New York, Hartford, Connecticut, and Trenton, New Jersey. It will also be warmer than average in the southeast.

Temperatures in the upper Midwest and northern Plains will be near average and in the Northwest they are expected to be a few degrees below average.

This is what the evening forecast for trick-or-treaters looks like: Showers along the cold front may dampen portions of the interior Northeast and Southwest into the Ohio Valley, lower Mississippi Valley and eastern Texas. This could include Cincinnati, Nashville and Pittsburgh.

Rain showers and mountain snow could also affect the Pacific Northwest in places.

A winter coat is a good addition to your Halloween costume if you live in the Northwest, the Rocky Mountains, or the Upper Midwest. Temperatures drop to over 40°C, making evening celebrations chilly.

On the other hand, parts of the South and East could sweat through their clothes at trick-or-treating time, as temperatures are expected to remain in the high 70s into the evening hours.
