Actor Miles Teller made a special appearance in Athens on Tuesday to promote a co-owned drink, the Finnish long drink, in downtown bars.

Teller Bar hopped around downtown, signing and giving away merchandise and pouring drinks for fans of the “Top Gun: Maverick” actor. In addition to handing out long drinks, he also participated in the Georgia Bulldogs' famous barking while wearing UGA gear.

“Georgia holds a special place for me because of the time I spent filming here and because of the role I played in 'Footloose,' where my character Willard was a bulldog fan,” Teller told the Athens Banner-Herald.

In his first appearance in Athens since 2012, when he filmed “The Spectacular Now” in the city, Teller made a brief stop during a tour of the country to promote the drink.

Teller said some parts of Georgia and Michigan are among the countries where the Finnish long drink is sold the most.

“Coming here was really a reaction,” Teller said when discussing the downtown bar scene.

What is the Finnish long drink?

The Finnish long drink has an interesting history, dating back to the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland.

To welcome visitors from around the world, the Finnish government wanted to create a refreshing and easy-to-serve drink. The unique cocktail made from gin, grapefruit juice and carbonated water was created back then.

Fast forward to Teller when he first discovered the drink in New York City at a bodega where the drink's founders were hosting a tasting. Shortly thereafter, he became the public face of the brand.
