With parliamentary elections tomorrow, the question on everyone's mind is who will win the presidential race.

But there are still many other key races on the ballot in Massachusetts, including five supplemental ballot questions – the most the state has seen in years.

A recent poll from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Poll Center shows where Massachusetts voters stand on these statewide election questions. The poll was based on the results of 750 likely voters with a margin of error of 3.5%.

While there appears to be a clear winner in the poll on some questions, others show a divide among voters.

Here's the breakdown of what the polls say.

What are the Massachusetts ballot questions for 2024?

Here are the five ballot initiatives Massachusetts residents will vote on on Election Day:

  • Question 1 asks whether a state auditor should have the authority to audit the Massachusetts Legislature.
  • Question 2 asks whether the state should eliminate the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) as a statewide requirement for high school graduation.
  • Question 3 asks whether domestic rideshare workers (at companies like Uber and Lyft) should have the right to unionize.
  • Question 4 questions whether psychedelic substances should be legalized and regulated in Massachusetts.
  • Question 5 asks whether tipped workers should be paid the minimum wage.

What is MA’s opinion on question 1?

The UNH poll shows a clear majority of support for Question 1. Nearly two-thirds of voters surveyed (65%) said they would vote “yes,” supporting authorizing the state auditor to audit the Massachusetts Legislature. 19% of people said they would vote no and 15% said they were undecided.

What is MA’s opinion on question 2?

On Question 2, voters are divided: 49% voted “yes” to eliminate MCAS as a graduation requirement, 43% voted “no” to keep it, and 8% said they were undecided in the UNH poll.

USA Today reports that the issue is one of the state's most competitive races, with a heated debate between many Massachusetts politicians that has featured stars like Matt Damon. Proponents of the ballot initiative say standardized tests are not a fair way to evaluate students, while opponents fear that removing the requirement would result in lowering academic standards nationwide.

What is MA’s opinion on question 3?

As with Question 1, voters in the UNH poll largely favored the question of whether to give rideshare drivers the right to unionize. 55% agreed to vote “yes” on the plan, while 25% were against the initiative and 20% were unsure.

What is MA’s opinion on question 4?

Yes also prevailed on Question 4 of the survey: 48% of respondents said they would vote for legalizing psychedelic drugs, 36% voted against legalization, and 16% said they were undecided.

What is MA’s opinion on question 5?

Voters in this survey were divided on Question 5: 41% of respondents said they would vote “yes” to the minimum wage for tipped workers, 45% said they would vote “no,” and 14% were unsure.

According to USA Today, Question 5 is another of the most competitive races in the state. While advocates say it would be fairer for all employees to receive a minimum wage, the restaurant industry has strongly opposed the initiative, saying that paying all employees $15 an hour would lead to higher menu prices, staff cuts, and would even lead to closures.
