Ted Cruz won re-election to the US Senate on Tuesday evening, defeating his Democratic challenger Colin Allred.

Although Cruz would ultimately win a narrow 9-point victory in the statewide results, it was still less than Donald Trump's margin of victory in the state.

The president-elect led the Lone Star State by nearly 14 points en route to victory in Tuesday's presidential election.

In Dallas-Fort Worth's largest counties, Cruz's lead was even narrower, although he gained votes compared to his 2018 re-election campaign.

In Dallas County, Cruz lost by 28 points. That was an improvement from the 2018 campaign, when he only received about 33% of the county's vote while Beto O'Rourke received 66%.

Cruz lost percentage points of the vote compared to 2018, but still managed to increase his lead in Denton and Collin counties.

Cruz lost again in Tarrant County, a county Trump won by 5 points this year.

Cruz's performance in the Dallas-Fort Worth area was also worse than his Senate colleague John Cornyn's 2020 performance.

Cornyn, also a presidential election year, outperformed Trump in all four counties in 2020.
