The Baltimore Orioles just secured their ticket to the 2024 postseason after defeating the New York Yankees 5-3 in the Bronx. Now, with five games remaining, they have the edge on winning the American League East division. With five games remaining, the Orioles need to win and hope the Yankees lose every game for the rest of the season. All eyes, however, are on the second game of the series.

Baltimore will rely on right-hander Zach Eflin (10-9, 3.53) at Yankee Stadium. He continues to have a great second half of the season since being traded from the Tampa Bay Rays. In his eight starts with the Orioles, he has posted a 5-2 record with a 2.31 ERA. He is coming off a no-decision against the San Francisco Giants, but not after making his 13th quality start of the year. He allowed just two runs on six hits in six innings. .

The scheduled starter for the game was Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes, but he was removed from the roster Wednesday morning after being sent for an MRI. The 29-year-old has allowed just one earned run in the last 15.1 innings but is suffering from soreness in his left elbow. The Yankees placed Cortes on the 15-day injured list ahead of tonight's game.

Instead, Eflin will face Marcus Stroman (10-8, 4.04), who will start for the Yankees tonight in place of Nestor Cortes. He will return to the rotation after coming out of the bullpen once in his last road game against the Seattle Mariners. In that game, he pitched three innings and allowed one run on five hits. This will be the Roberto Clemente Award nominee's first start of the season against the Orioles.
