Hugh Hewitt resigns as Washington Post columnist after storming Paper's livestream

Conservative columnist Hugh Hewitt has resigned The Washington Post On Friday, shortly after the exit, there was a turbulent livestream debate moderated by Jonathan Capehart New York Post Reports.

Hewitt walked away poston “First Look” with liberal columnists Jonathan Capehart and Ruth Marcus after a heated discussion about Donald Trump's lawsuit over alleged election irregularities in Pennsylvania.

Capehart began by asking Marcus if Trump is “laying the groundwork for challenging the election by complaining that fraud took place in Pennsylvania?” He pointed to Trump's lawsuit against Bucks County over alleged irregularities.

“No election can be fair for Donald Trump unless Donald Trump wins it,” Marcus said. When Hewitt tried to intervene, Capehart said, “Let Ruth finish, Hugh.”

“Well, I just have to say, we're news people, even if it's in the opinion section,” Hewitt said. “It needs to be reported. Bucks County was overturned by the court and ordered to grant extra days because they were breaking the law and telling people to go home. So this lawsuit was filed by the Republican National Committee and it succeeded…We are news people, even though we have opinions, and we have to report the whole story when we address a part of the story. Yes, he's upset with Bucks County, but he was right and won in court. That’s the story.”

After a pause, Capehart said, “I don't appreciate being lectured about reporting when Hugh, you've come here many times and said a lot of things that aren't based on facts.”

Hewitt then called the livestream the “most unfair election advertising” he had ever done and left the set.

Hewitt was there post since 2017. He also hosts a radio show in which he recently interviewed Trump.

The newspaper came under fire this week over its owner Jeff Bezos' decision not to allow it to endorse a presidential candidate.
