Hurricane Helene: Power outage maps, emergency shelters, emergency management authorities

Power outages are reported across Georgia as Hurricane Helene continues its track north, and power outages are expected

Helene made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane and is expected to weaken but remain a hurricane in south and central Georgia before being downgraded to a tropical storm as it passes through metro Atlanta.

Expected impacts in North Georgia include tropical storm-force winds, heavy rainfall, lightning and potential tornadoes; Flash flood warnings are in effect for several counties in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

As of 11 p.m. Thursday, Georgia Power reported that more than 20,000 customers were affected by Helene and there were more than 500 active outages.

  • Frontline Response International, 2585 Gresham Road in Atlanta. This shelter will be open 24 hours a day during the storm.
  • Center for Pan Asian Community Services Inc., 3510 Shallowford Road NE in Atlanta. This shelter opens Thursday at 4 p.m
  • The New Life Community Alliance Auditorium at 3592 Flat Shoals Road in Decatur. This shelter opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday and will remain open 24 hours a day during the storm.
  • Tucker The First United Methodist Church Activities Center is located at 4315 Church Street in Tucker. This shelter opens Thursday at 7 p.m. and has limited capacity.

The Department of Natural Resources State Parks & Historic Sites Division is ready to accept displaced residents and domestic animals, including horses. State parks outside the storm's impact zone are open and accessible to displaced citizens. State Parks is hosting 15 evacuees.
