Flights in Florida and many Gulf states were canceled due to Hurricane Milton.

According to tracking software FlightAware, over 2,270 flights had been canceled as of Thursday.

Airports in Orlando, Tampa and elsewhere suspended flights throughout the week. In Miami alone, 148 flights were canceled.

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), some airports remained closed Thursday due to the storm. Storm surge warnings remain in effect in the affected areas.

“If you are traveling from Florida, please do not go to the airport unless the airport is open and it is safe to drive there. Always check with your airline to check flight status,” the TSA wrote.

If your flight is canceled, you are entitled to a full refund using the same payment method, according to the Department of Transportation. This also applies to “non-refundable” tickets.

While airlines often automatically rebook travelers when flights are canceled, given the widespread outages caused by Hurricane Milton, it is recommended that you call your airline's international help desk instead.

Additionally, tagging an airline on a social media platform like X can sometimes attract the attention of representatives who can quickly rebook passengers.

The 2024 hurricane season lasts about eight weeks and officially ends on November 30th.
