The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Monday in Kano, stressed that it is time for Nigeria to explore alternative energy sources to meet our energy needs.

While speaking on the ongoing power outages in Northern Nigeria, Kwankwaso stressed that we must utilize the abundant resources of this country to produce much more reliable and diverse sources of energy rather than depending on the existing dwindling source of energy.

“I would like to encourage all state governments and private investors to invest in alternative sources of electricity as we have done in Kano by installing two turbines at Challawa Gorge and Tiga dams to end over-reliance on our inadequate and outdated energy sources “Senator Kwankwaso emphasized.

According to him, it is very disheartening that many parts of Northern Nigeria are in disarray today due to vandalism on the important 330kV Shiroro-Kaduna power line that serves Kano and Kaduna States and another line that serves Bauchi, Gombe and others Parts of the northeast lie in complete darkness.

Kwankwaso lamented that this situation was exacerbated by high petrol and diesel prices in Nigeria, which are currently throwing homes into darkness and forcing factories to close.

“The time it has taken to address this crisis highlights the huge lack of capacity in our energy sector to deal with major problems, and this issue must be addressed to avoid future disruption.”

“It is time for us to look for alternative energy sources to meet our energy needs and we must utilize this country’s abundant resources.

“I would like to encourage all state governments and private investors to invest in alternative sources of electricity as we did in Kano by installing two turbines at Challawa Gorge and Tiga dams to reduce dependence on our inadequate and obsolete energy sources ,” explained the NNPP leader.

It is worth remembering that the entire northern region has been and is still struggling with not only an erratic power supply but also a complete blackout for months.

This situation has led to the closure of cottage industries and layoffs of workers, according to recent findings by The PUNCH.
